Minister of Agriculture Pledges Support to Private Sector on Value Chain Development, Farmer Aggregation. Nigeria's Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Hon. Muhammad Sabo Nanono has pledged support to private sector players on the development of agricultural value chains in the country. The Minister made this pledge while receiving a delegation of the UK government Agric Intervention Programme(LINKS Project), RegenFARM Ltd UK and the management team of Dantata Foods and Allied Products Limited who were in his office on a scooping visit. The Honourable Minister Sabo Nanono said government is already overwhelmed with alot of responsibilities, coupled with dwindling financial resources, a private sector driven value chain development and farmer aggregation seems to be the most viable alternative. He said, the ministry would continue to partner with the private sector players and the International donor agencies in the Agro-processing industry to create a private sector driven policy framework that will bring rapid economic growth. Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation and Chairman of Dantata Foods and Allied Products Limited, Alhaji Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata sought for the minister's support in providing the enabling environment for the impactful private sector participation in Agriculture. " As food processors, we could not survive if we are not given the opportunity to drive the process" - Tajuddeen Dantata. The Chairman said, farmer aggregation and value chain development should be run fully by the private sector players to have the desired outcomes. In his contribution, the national deputy team leader of the British FCDO funded LINKS Project Alhaji Bello Yakasai reiterated the commitment of the development partners in reforming Agriculture in Nigeria. The Federal Minstry of Agriculture and the partners agreed to share data and other vital information to transform the sector as all the stakeholders seem to be on the same page.
